The unofficial artist in residence of the Outwoods is exhibiting his work.
75 – year – old Mike Roberts studied art at Cardiff and is originally from Wales. On moving to Cornwall he spent his working life driving a Post Office Van but on settling in Loughborough has returned to painting.
Mike said leaving coastal Cornwall for land – locked Loughborough fifteen years ago took a bit of getting used to but once he discovered the ancient Outwoods, part of Charnwood Forest and a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) he didn’t look back.
He believes the Outwoods has a special energy generated by the granite rock. He accounts the mysticism present in the forest to teluric forces from the compressed crystal in granite motivating his output.
“It produces bio – electrical energy that leads me to paint the wonderful scenery,” he said.
Mike’s paintings are currently on view at the Urban Forest exhibition highlighted the bid for Charnwood Forest to become a UNESCO geopark in Loughborough’s shopping centre The Rushes depicting the beauty Mike sees in the ancient woodland, part of the National Forest.
