Charnwood

Interested in woods and how to manage them?

Charnwood Forest Geopark and Leicestershire County Council are running a series of taster sessions over the next few weeks for prospective volunteers. If you’re interested in a joining a woodfuel and woodland management volunteer group at Beacon Hill Country Park this could be for you.

The taster sessions are a chance to meet senior ranger, Chris Conway, and a member of the Geopark team in the Upper Car Park at Beacon Hill for a 10am start. There will be free parking for you on the day.

There will be a walk from there to the site while hearing from Chris about how woodlands are managed, what tools you’ll use and what tasks you may expect to do. Following these taster sessions a regular Beacon Hill Woodfuel Group will be organised, supported by Leicestershire County Council, for volunteers to help manage the woodland and generate sustainable woodfuel.

There should be the opportunity to get stuck in and try some woodland management techniques and to take away some wood fuel as a thank you for your time and effort.

Please wear sturdy footwear and clothes suitable for the weather. Please bring your own lunch and drinks. You’ll be provided with protection equipment and tools.
