AMAZON STAFF SET UP OFFICE IN WARM HUB.

AMAZON remote workers are taking advantage of council – funded warm spaces to work.

Tech workers for the huge global brand expected to announce sales of around £150bn for the final quarter of last year are making use of power points to run laptops in the heated building of Leicestershire County Council – run Loughborough library for free.

Council libraries have been through a period of massive shake – up with significant cuts to funding as the council struggled to plug huge deficits in balancing its books.

Many of the county’s village libraries are now solely volunteer – led.

The employees work for Amazon’s technological support division Ops – Tech IT and save on heating their own work spaces as well as lighting and power.

Ops – Tech IT   describes itself as a technology centric product and services organization that designs, builds and sustains the invisible, highly-resilient network, computer infrastructure and device scaffolding empowering and protecting Amazon’s Global Operations.

Recently workers at the company’s depot in Coventry voted ‘yes’ in an historic ballot for industrial action to demand pay of £15 per hour.

The global giant last week announced it’s to shut three U.K. warehouses and seven small delivery firms affecting more than 1300 jobs. It said all workers will be offered alternative jobs at new Amazon delivery warehouses.

However concern has been expressed workers will struggle to relocate particularly the 300 at the site in Gourock in the west of Scotland where Amazon has received significant funding from the Scottish government.
