Landmark war memorial the Carillon marked its one hundredth year today.

Opened in 1923 in remembrance of the soldiers of the First World War who paid with their lives its ring still resonates around Loughborough.
One of only 15 in the country the carillon plays 47 bells from the floor below the tower by a piano – like instrument pulling levers controlling each bell. Each one was produced by the town’s remaining bell foundry, then John Taylor & Co and is finely tuned at a different musical scale.
The tower has loomed over Loughborough at 46 metres (151 feet) ever since extending its toll of lost lives after World War 2 and is accessed by 138 spiral steps leading to commanding views of the valley.
Every Remembrance Sunday poppies are released from the tower in tribute to the fallen soldiers.
