Charnwood has the highest number of people classified as homeless and living in temporary accommodation in the county.
One in 496 people is without a home in the Leicestershire borough, the second highest number in the East Midlands with Nottingham the number one blackspot.
It’s also estimated 152 children live in temporary accommodation in Charnwood.
According to housing charity Shelter’s latest figures last year an estimated 1400 people were homeless in Leicestershire on any one night.
The city of Leicester’s homeless rate is the second highest in the county with one person in every 513 without a secure roof.
While statistics on the number of people sleeping rough on the streets on any given night in Charnwood show as zero hidden homelessness is the major problem with people housed in temporary accommodation including young people in shelters and bed and breakfast.

44 of the number calculated are people living in temporary accommodation arranged by themselves or ‘homeless at home’; they are legally homeless but haven’t yet been moved into temporary accommodation.
Narborough has the lowest estimate of homeless people with one in 4648 and Melton one place above at one in 3700.
The figures are compiled by housing charity Shelter using research that shows in 2022 at least 271,000 people are recorded as homeless in England, including 123,000 children.
Chief Executive of Shelter Polly Neate said: “The new year should be a time of hope, but this isn’t the case for the 271,000 homeless people who are facing a truly bleak 2023. A cold doorway or a grotty hostel room is not a home, but this is reality for too many people today”.
Shelter’s detailed analysis of official homelessness figures from the department of levelling up and housing and communities, research from Homeless Link charity and responses to a Freedom of Information request shows that one in 208 people in England are without a home.
Of these, 2,400 people are sleeping rough on any one night.
