HOW to grow an independent fruit and vegetable supply on neglected space is to be discussed at a public meeting.
Incredible Edible Loughborough is to hold its first event since it launched to focus on how people can produce food that is local, healthy and freely available to all on public places in urban spaces.
People are invited to hear more about using local land to grow food in this way as well as discuss food supply issues at Fearon Hall Community Centre on Wednesday February 15 at 7pm.
“The food we grow is free to the community to help themselves to and conversations show how enthusiastic people in the area are about this,” said Incredible Edible local organiser Julian Rees.
The Loughborough group cultivates two spaces; one on the corner of Cambridge Street and another on Rectory Road next to Fearon Hall.
Mr Rees said they aim to connect people by through growing on local land with minimal CO2 emissions and no damage to wildlife or soil.
The evening includes information on the group’s forthcoming “How To Grow” courses for beginners or people with some experience in how to grow their own food, using the greenhouse at Fearon Hall and planting out in the Incredible Edible gardens.
There will also be 20 minute film on regenerative agriculture to end the evening of debate, discussion and food and drink.
Incredible Edible has 148 groups in the U.K. and around 1000 worldwide connecting people through growing food on disused spaces.
Food accounts for 37 per cent of emissions globally making it one of the biggest drivers of climate change.
