Fire Dampened Down in Town Centre

DRONE footage taken shows the extent of the damage to the roof of Loughborough’s historic market place building housing the HSBC bank yesterday following a fire.

The entire top floor appears gutted with the entire depth of the building’s roof burnt off.

Fire investigators are at the scene as the area remains roped off.

Fears grew last night the flames could spread to the adjacent town hall which is currently under inspection.

The market place remains cordoned off today (Thursday) with the traditional market cancelled.

Eight fire crews from across the county attended the blaze starting around 3pm yesterday, described by Charnwood Borough Councillor Rob Mitchell as ” a major fire that could have been a lot worse”.
