Borough Council Shares Power

Leader of council departs after twelve years leaving chamber with no overall control . 

Johnathan Morgan, leader of Charnwood Borough Council no longer heads the governing body following Thursday’s (May 4) local elections giving no one party overall control.

The Conservatives hold the most seats at 23 and Labour improved their number by eight to a total of 20.  

The Green Party increased their one seat to eight and there’s one independent.

Leader of the Labour group Cllr Jewel Miah Loughborough East said they are now talking with other parties over the weekend to plan how to work together to bring their pledges forward.  

“It’s a fantastic result for Labour in Charnwood,” said Cllr Miah.
