Following the Conservative administration losing fourteen seats at the local elections power sharing is likely to be agreed between two opposition parties.
The Labour group is to propose Labour take control of Charnwood Borough Council sharing power with the Green party that increased its seats to eight.
Labour increased the number of wards it holds to 20 and on Monday at the next council meeting a proposal is to be made for it to lead the authority as a minority party with Labour group Cllr Jewel Miah taking the helm.

Coun Miah said: “We’re delighted to have picked up new seats across the borough, in Loughborough Southfields, Woodthorpe, Barrow, Mountsorrel, Birstall East & Wanlip and Shepshed, and we thank residents for putting their faith in us to represent them in both these areas and the wards in which we have held our previous seats.
“This result comes at a crucial time for Charnwood. We recognise the challenges facing the community. We are ready to represent the needs of the people of Charnwood and promote policies that will create a better future for all. We are looking forward to achieving our goals of making Charnwood a greener, more equal and sustainable community.”
A report to be presented to the council at the meeting reads: “The chief executive understands that an agreement has been reached between the Labour group and Green group to support a minority Labour administration, and that the leader of the Labour group, Councillor Miah, will therefore be nominated for the position of leader of the council.”
