New shoots of growth from a food growing group have dug down deep to connect to a community residents’ association.
Incredible Edible Loughborough’s strategy to grow food in disused public places has widened its reach to include vegetable beds next to Warwick Way’s 3 Close Residents’ Association at their invitation.
In its bid to find local solutions to food poverty and insecurity and inspire positive change by forging links between communities through cultivating food, Incredible Edible has already reached capacity at beds on Cambridge Street Corner Garden and Rectory Road.
Producing a thriving range of greens and soft fruit at a time of soaring supermarket prices and interruptions to the supply chain, the growers expect people to crop it for themselves at eight prospective sites across the town.
Starting in February they are a season closer to fulfilling the worldwide network’s objectives of bringing together community, learning and business to create places people can be proud of and full of hope for the future.

Leader of Incredible Edible Loughborough Julian Rees said they planted up empty raised beds and ground with quashes, courgettes, runner beans and lettuces as well as a container of potatoes.
“Hard work but great fun and hopefully the start of a great relationship between 3 Close Residents’ Association and Incredible Edible,” said Julian.
Member of Incredible Edible Marie Wan described it as teamwork at its best.
“It was hard work but so much fun,” said Marie.
“At this rate we’ll be joining our roots to Thorpe Acre,” said another member, Fiona Pimperton.
