Town Goes For Gold Again

The heat is on as the area’s annual entry in the competition for the best floral and green spaces around the country has been placed.

Loughborough once again put forward a stunning array of horticultural plantscapes developed across the town to a panel of judges of fiercely contested national race Loughborough In Bloom.

Contributions from residents, community groups, Charnwood Borough Council with its outdoor contractor IDVerde again championed the highest standards in outdoor cultivation and environmental practices that usually receive high recognition and achieve gold.

This year the standard was set particularly high as the Carillon war memorial in Queen’s Park marks its centenary with show – stopping flower displays in the beds.

Chairperson of Loughborough In Bloom Pat Cook said: “Many thanks go to Charnwood Borough Council, idverde, Serco, and Love Loughborough (the BID),
and the many community groups who all give their time free, and for the support we get from the university. All worked hard in keeping Loughborough looking clean, and inviting to all who come into the town.”

This year’s entry included newly formed community growing group Incredible Edible and volunteer – led environmental conservation work from the Green Gym. The best in hanging baskets featured across homes and commercial buildings and a top tenants’ garden competition proved popular once again.

Loughborough In Bloom community participation chair chairman Mike Jones said:

“Our community groups continue to be the lifeblood of Loughborough
in Bloom. Throughout the year, hundreds of community group
volunteers can be seen working across the town, enhancing their local
environment and making Loughborough a great place to live, work
and visit.”
