Town sets gold standard again

Horticultural features and projects across the town were assessed by a panel of experts to have struck gold for the twelve – year running.

The East Midlands In Bloom judges, part of a nationwide annual competition deemed Loughborough’s displays and works to be of gold – standard yet again.

Chari of Loughborough in Bloom Pat Cooke said: “We are delighted to have received the highest honour once again in the East Midlands in Bloom judging.

“A lot of hard work goes into our open spaces and I feel like this award is well and truly deserved.

“I would like to thank all the community groups and volunteers who help make the town look its best, year on year.”

Work involving a number of green – space projects included Queen’s Park, the Outwoods and Forest Road Greenbelt, the Green Gym as well as hanging baskets and several other community – led projects. The university submitted a film for children and families on insects in the area.

The Bloom team submitted a portfolio of the town’s effort and was visited in July by judges

The open spaces are maintained by Charnwood Borough Council’s partner, idverde, waste contractor Serco and volunteers and community groups from across the town.

Charnwood Borough Council’s lead member for waste, open spaces and leisure facilities Anne Gray said: “It is fantastic to see that Loughborough in Bloom has been awarded gold yet again.

“We are so proud of our open spaces across the town and they are so well maintained.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in maintaining our open spaces for their hard work throughout the year including the Council’s open spaces partner, idverde and our waste contractor, Serco.”
