READING could be the new relaxation after a book circle has formed in view of the new Hope Bell.
Several of the book – shaped benches, tributes to Loughborough’s Ladybird Books were placed around the bell in Queen’s Park to move them out of the way of the fair.
It’s all part of the work underway through the Loughborough Town Deal moving on rapidly with finishing touches to the bell, in memory of the pandemic and how the town’s people pulled together, being added watched on by members of the public enjoying the newly – arranged book group.
The gate onto Granby Street is being redeveloped as part of the Living Loughborough Lanes and Links project funded by the government money.
Head groundsman Dave Dowse said the allocated funding has to be spent by April or the town will lose out.
“The playground by the Browns Lane entrance is being moved next to the bell and now should include an area for young people, “said Dave.
He estimates the new gate cost around £200,000 while the Christmas lights this year cost around £100,000 .
“The canopy over the park cafe cost £40,000,” said Dave.

But unfortunately the new tables and chairs in Cafe in the Park have already been earmarked for replacement as the furniture fell apart after only about six months of use. The stoppers on the legs came off as well as broken arms and legs.
Communications manager for Charnwood Borough Council Mike Roberts said the furniture is being replaced under warranty this time.
“There is no additional cost to the council or the Town Deal,” said Mr Roberts.
