Ghouls haunted a night of incredible food and good company leaving members of a new growing putting out a SOS call for new tools.
New off –shoot Incredible Edible Sileby joined the established Loughborough group for their annual homegrown meal at Fearon Hall, Loughborough but on return found their allotment shed razed to the ground.
The arson attack left all their tools burnt down to the metal and they are requesting anyone with tools to spare to please get in touch through this website.
Group leader Gisela Derrick said it was a night of a lovely event with delicious veggie chilli made with love and lovely company but ended sadly.
“When I got back I had news our small shed at Sileby community garden had been set on fire,” said Gisela.
“Only the metal bits of our spades and forks are left from the fire,” she said.
“Sad days but please if anyone can help replace them do let us know ,” she added.
Sileby Parish Council recently received government funding to upgrade the town’s memorial park and provide space for a community garden near the pavilion. Following landscaping and putting in raised beds it’s now cultivated by the latest regional Incredible Edible; renegade growers who cultivate public places.
However word of the horror soon went out and other group members from the dinner immediately rallied around to search for replacement tools.
The team at Rectory Wildlife Garden and Transition Loughborough offered new tools in spades and fortunately one member was recently asked by her neighbour to sort out her shed for her to see if there were any tools to salvage.
The two groups encourage and support residents to grow and use fresh produce, recently collecting seed donations from the public during Sileby library’s green week.
Fighting back from the brink Gisela said: “Members of our community who don’t always find buying fresh fruit and veg affordable can directly benefit from the Incredible Edible garden. Residents who maybe don’t have their own garden or just enjoy being out in the fresh air doing something useful can volunteer”.
Loughborough Incredible Edible leader Julian Rees expressed his disappointed at how such a great night ended.
“How terrible,” he said. “I’m so sorry.”
